About the role

  • The Licensing Engineering Intern supports licensing, regulatory strategy, and safety-basis development for advanced nuclear reactor projects, with emphasis on Non-Light Water Reactors (non-LWRs) and DOE/NRC-regulated facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Licensing Basis & Methodology Assist engineers in developing and maintaining the project licensing basis for advanced reactor systems.
  • Support preparation and review of regulatory documentation such as technical reports, licensing submittals, and supporting analysis.
  • Perform regulatory research on NRC and DOE requirements.
  • SSC Safety Classification & Design Interface Work with multidisciplinary engineering teams to gather design information needed for licensing and safety documentation.
  • Assist in maintaining traceability between design information and the project safety or licensing basis.
  • Support documentation related to the classification of Structures, Systems, and Components (SSCs).
  • Regulatory Submissions Prepare and review licensing documents and technical reports (PSARs, FSARs, License Amendment Requests, COL/ML/ESP/CP/OL/SDAs as applicable).
  • Working under the guidance of experienced licensing engineers, you will assist with regulatory analysis, safety analysis documentation, and preparation of technical materials that support interactions with the DOE/NRC.

Requirements

  • This role provides hands-on experience with nuclear licensing processes, risk-informed safety analysis, and regulatory compliance for advanced reactor technologies.

  • Advanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) in a relevant discipline.

Skills

  • Technical writing and oral communication.
  • Ability to learn complex regulatory and technical requirements.
  • Strong analytical problem-solving ability.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in interdisciplinary teams.
  • Proficiency with common engineering analysis tools.
  • Preferred Qualifications Advanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) in a relevant discipline.
