About the role

It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws.
Other divisions include Administration, Health Services, Rehabilitation & Reentry, Special Operations and the Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission.
The employee in this role handles complex assignments requiring independent judgment, accuracy, and a thorough understanding of legal procedures involving pro‑se inmate tort claims.

Coordinating and executing all aspects of pro‑se inmate tort claim settlements, including preparing settlement documents and facilitating approvals.
Assisting attorneys with discovery by gathering documents, reviewing materials, and organizing evidence for litigation.
Arranging service of subpoenas, scheduling witnesses, and preparing and organizing supporting documents, exhibits, and evidence.

Degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Graduation from an appropriately accredited institution for paralegal training and two years of experience as a paralegal.
Bachelor's degree from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of substantive paralegal experience.
The Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)/ Management Preferences are not required.

North Carolina State Bar paralegal certification is preferred
Thorough knowledge of case, statutory, and common law
Working knowledge of judicial and quasi-judicial procedures and the rules of evidence
Experience performing legal research using technology in accordance with preliminary instructions
Demonstrated experience in summarizing facts/ evidence/ writing assignments and preparing legal instruments

$57,606.00 - $86,409.00 Annually
Salary Grade: LG04
Compensation and
State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as, or lower than, their current position.
If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity.
Based upon these factors, a pay increase MAY result.
