About the role

  • We are seeking a knowledgeable, polished, detail-oriented, and hospitality-driven Sommelier to join the Moss New York team with Compass Group.
  • Sommeliers play a vital role in shaping the guest experience through thoughtful wine service, curated beverage guidance, and elevated tableside presence.
  • This role is essential to maintaining a refined and seamless dining environment, ensuring that every recommendation and interaction reflects our commitment to luxury hospitality.

  • Maintain the highest standards of personal hygiene and presentation. To arrive on duty always wearing the correct uniform.
  • Establish and maintain a good working relationship with other departments.

Requirements

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail and composure
  • Ensure mise-en-place in the restaurant and the cellar is performed to the required standard assigned by the Wine Director.
  • Minimum of 2+ years serving experience in a high-volume, service-driven restaurant environment; upscale or chef-driven concepts preferred.
  • Flexible availability for AM and PM shifts, including weekends.
  • Strong teamwork, professionalism, and a hospitality-first mindset with excellent communication skills.
  • Genuine interest in seasonal, ingredient-driven cuisine with a willingness to expand culinary and beverage knowledge.
  • Working knowledge of classic cocktails, foundational wine varietals, and beer styles; fine-dining or craft beverage experience a plus.

Compensation

  • The hourly wage for this position is $15.00 per hour with tips.
  • Training wage during the orientation period is $17.00 per hour.
  • This is a non-exempt, hourly position. In accordance with the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), you are eligible for overtime pay at one and a half times your regular rate for all hours worked over 40 in a single workweek.
