About the role
- Contribute to system architecture with a focus on scalability, reliability, and performance
- Write high-quality, maintainable code and uphold strong engineering standards
- Participate in sprint planning, estimation, and delivery
Responsibilities
- Build and scale product features and backend services that power core user experiences
- Partner with Product and Design to deliver impactful features from concept to production
- Collaborate closely with engineers across pods to ship cohesive solutions
- Take ownership of projects and drive them through completion
- In this role, you will partner with cross-functional teams to deliver high-impact features and improve how we build.
- You'll contribute to system design, drive execution, and take ownership of meaningful parts of the codebase.
- You'll design, build, and improve critical systems at Chalkboard, driving strong execution and contributing to engineering excellence.
Requirements
- ~5-8 years of software engineering experience
- These systems power core parts of our business and must be scalable, reliable, and built to support rapid growth.
- Solid understanding of system design, databases, and scalable architectures
- Proven ability to deliver and maintain production systems
- Experience working in fast-paced, startup environments
- Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional partners
Nice to have
- Strong full-stack experience (Node.js, React, React Native preferred)
Skills
- Experience working with modern data stores (e.g., PostgreSQL, MongoDB) and cloud platforms (e.g., GCP)
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
