About the role

  • The Department of Bioengineering, Civil Engineering, and Environmental Engineering at Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU) invites applicants for multiple open-rank faculty positions, starting January 2027.
  • We seek individuals with enthusiasm for teaching and a desire to engage students in the classroom and laboratory on subjects primarily in civil and environmental engineering.
  • This is an open and broad search intended to attract a highly qualified pool of candidates.

Requirements

  • ABD candidates will be considered, provided the doctoral degree is conferred by the start date.
  • If the selected candidate is ABD at the time of appointment, the position will be offered at the Lecturer level on a fixed-term contract until the degree is conferred.
  • Experience and evidence appropriate to the desired rank
  • Master's degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a closely related field of Engineering from an accredited institution or equivalent accreditation.
  • Successful candidates must be able to teach new and/or courses in Civil and Environmental Engineering at the undergraduate and graduate level.

Nice to have

  • Expertise in civil and environmental engineering that complement departmental strengths and the Southwest Florida environment.
  • Professional registration, licensing or the ability to become licensed, or certifications related to the civil and environmental engineering discipline.
  • A rank-appropriate record of scholarly publication, externally funded research, or professional development activities.
  • Relevant filed experience in one or more of the above-listed areas is highly desirable.
  • Successful candidates must be able to teach new and/or existing courses in civil and environmental engineering, as well as in selected general engineering topics.

  • Knowledge of major concepts, assumptions, debates, processes of inquiry, and ways of knowing that are central to the discipline(s).
  • Understanding how to use digital and interactive technologies for efficiently and effectively achieving specific learning goals.
  • Knowledge and skill in the use of inquiry-based instructional models and strategies.
  • Knowledge and ability to use technology in various teaching modalities (e.g. Face-to-face, synchronous online or asynchronous online).
  • Ability to deal effectively with a wide range of learners and to use information technology as a pedagogical and professional tool.
