About the role
- You'll influence product strategy, portfolio performance, and market direction while helping teams navigate challenging risks and capitalize on growth opportunities.
- The actual salary will depend on several factors, including relevant education, skills, and experience of an applicant, geographic location, and business needs.

Responsibilities
- In this leadership role, you'll serve as the enterprise expert for the Public Entity segment, partnering with underwriting, claims, risk improvement, actuarial, and regional teams to develop innovative solutions and guide complex underwriting decisions.
- Lead development and execution of segment strategies, business plans, and initiatives aligned with profitability goals.
- Develop and communicate underwriting best practices, appetite, and guidance across the organization.
- Partner with Claims, Risk Improvement, Actuarial, and other business units to achieve segment objectives.
- Support underwriting quality assurance through audits, reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Lead or participate in strategic projects, vendor relationships, and product implementation efforts.
Nice to have
- Bachelor's degree, preferably in a business or insurance related field, or equivalent relevant experience
- Ten years of commercial property and casualty underwriting including at least three years of staff underwriting experience in applicable industry segment
- Insurance designations, such as AU, CIC, or CPCU preferred
Skills
- Advanced, proven knowledge of countrywide underwriting techniques, terminology, policies, and forms in applicable business area
- Excellent underwriting judgment and decision-making skills
- Strong knowledge of key performance indicators (KPIs) and ways to improve them
- Advanced written and verbal communication skills, including presentation skills
- Ability to work effectively with others, as well as independently and possess demonstrated problem-solving abilities
- Strong computer knowledge, Internet and keyboarding skills
- Strong ability to distill and communicate highly complex issues for technical and non-technical audiences
- Occasional travel; a valid driver's license with an acceptable motor vehicle report per company standards required if driving
