About the role

  • About Exus Renewables North America Exus Renewables North America is a leading independent developer and operator of utility-scale renewable energy projects, dedicated to advancing clean energy solutions across the United States.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact with RTOs/ISOs and interconnected transmission owners for GIA/IA execution, implementation, and amendment activities, ensuring proactive issue resolution and effective external stakeholder management.
  • Advise executive leadership on transmission-driven go/no-go decisions, market entry considerations, and portfolio prioritization.

Responsibilities

  • Lead interconnection activities for new and existing generation projects, including oversight of detailed electrical modeling, power system analyses, and strategic assessments of transmission constraints, upgrade requirements, and interconnection risk.
  • Manage the full interconnection lifecycle across multiple markets to secure Interconnection Agreements (IAs/GIAs), from application submission through study phases, negotiation, and execution, while ensuring alignment with regulatory milestones, portfolio sequencing, and downstream construction and operations requirements.
  • Evaluate and compare interconnection alternatives at both the project and portfolio level to optimize outcomes across cost, schedule, offtake priorities, transmission risk, and capital efficiency in close collaboration with other departments.
  • Lead internal transmission- and interconnection-related policy interpretation by monitoring FERC, state regulatory, and RTO/ISO market developments and ensuring timely integration of rule changes into development and interconnection strategies.
  • Support due diligence for M&A, PPA, and financing transactions by providing transmission, interconnection, and grid-related assessments that inform commercial, technical, and investment decision-making.
  • With offices in Pittsburgh, New York, and Albuquerque, and over 100 employees in the US, Exus NA focuses on developing, repowering, and managing renewable energy assets, contributing to the nation's decarbonization efforts and driving sustainable growth in the U.S. renewable energy sector.
  • The Director of Transmission Planning will support Exus' transmission and interconnection activities across all applicable interconnection regions and RTOs/ISOs.
  • This role is responsible for developing and executing portfolio-level interconnection strategies, interpreting and anticipating changes to RTO/ISO tariffs and modeling approaches, and advocating internal and external mitigation strategies to manage interconnection risk, cost exposure, and schedule impacts.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of progressive experience in transmission planning, interconnection, or power system engineering roles required, preferably within a renewable energy developer, utility, ISO/RTO, or consulting environment.

Nice to have

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or power dynamics or related field required
  • master's preferred.
