Responsibilities
- The Dispatcher is expected to remain calm under pressure, exercise sound judgment, maintain confidentiality of sensitive information, and provide exceptional customer service to students, faculty, staff, visitors, and outside public safety agencies.
- Customer Service & Administrative Support:
Requirements
- A high school diploma/GED and some experience in customer service, communications, dispatch, public safety, emergency services, law enforcement, or administrative support are required.
- Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Ability to learn and effectively use Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD), Records Management Systems (RMS), camera systems, access control systems, and other public safety technologies.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with officers, university personnel, students, and the public.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately.
Skills
- Knowledge of modern public safety dispatching procedures and radio communications.
- Knowledge of GCIC/NCIC rules, regulations, and security requirements.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and general computer operations.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to communicate clearly over radio and telephone systems.
- Ability to accurately gather information during emergency situations.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment and make rapid decisions under stressful conditions.
- Ability to prioritize multiple incidents while maintaining composure.
- Ability to maintain detailed and accurate records.
- Strong customer service skills.
- Ability to work rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime as required.
- Ability to adapt quickly to changing operational needs.
