About the role

  • We are seeking a motivated Research Technician with experience in metabolomics, lipidomics, and/or proteomics to join the mass spectrometry shared resource.
  • The successful candidate will play a key role in executing mass spectrometry sample preparation and LC-MS/MS system operation, serving as a trusted technical resource across a variety of labs and research projects at different stages.
  • They should be equally energized by solving problems collaboratively and by independently executing well-defined workflow, even when working without full visibility into the broader research context.

Responsibilities

  • Perform sample preparation including biomolecule extractions, isotope labeling of biomolecules, protein digestions, LC fractionation, SPE sample cleanup and related sample purifications.

Requirements

  • At least 4 years (Bachelor of Science) or 2 years (Master of Science) of hands-on experience performing metabolomic, lipidomic or proteomic sample preparations, operating and/or maintaining LC-MS/MS systems.
  • Experience in data analysis software such as Compound Discoverer, LipidSearch, MS-DIAL, Skyline, Proteome Discoverer, MaxQuant, DIA-NN or FragPipe will be an asset.
  • Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biochemistry, biology, or a closely related field. Master's degrees and above are preferred.
  • Comfortable operating in a shared resource environment, balancing the needs of multiple research groups while remaining responsive and adaptable.
  • Highly organized with strong written and verbal communication skills, sharp attention to detail, and dependable, team-oriented work style.
  • Physical Requirements

Work may involve possible exposure to malodorous vapors, low dose radiation, contamination by toxic chemicals and acids and presence of carcinogenic substances or other hazardous materials.

Nice to have

  • Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biochemistry, biology, or a closely related field.
  • Master's degrees and above are preferred.
  • Proficiency in using mass spectrometer operating software, particularly Thermo Xcalibur, is preferred.
