About the role
- The ideal candidate is a self-motivated engineer with a versatile skill set who is comfortable working across many layers of technical depth.
- This position is hybrid and requires working on-site in our Mountain View, CA office three days per week.
Responsibilities
- Own development of visible and thermal infrared camera subsystems including generation of technical specifications and interface control documents (ICDs), trade studies, vendor technical management, performance characterization and testing, and failure mode and root cause analysis.
- Support subsystem and instrument-level testing, including environmental (vibration, thermal-vacuum (TVAC) testing and system characterization/V&V.
- Collaborate and communicate effectively with instrument and spacecraft systems engineers, data scientists, AI&T and production teams, and program managers.

Requirements
- B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in an engineering field, or equivalent experience.
- Experience working with precision optical and mechanical metrology equipment.
- Experience with root cause analysis efforts including data analysis and testing.
- Experience performing data analysis, post-processing, and test report generation for optical component and camera system performance.
- Experience with risk management, including risk tracking and development and implementation of mitigation plans.
- Experience working in cleanroom environments.
- 5+ years of experience working in a multi-disciplinary environment, with demonstrated experience with imaging systems and infrared remote sensing instruments.
- Software skills in one or more languages (e.g. Python, C++).
- Excellent communication, presentation, and organization skills.
- Excited to work in a fast-paced environment with new challenges each week.

- Exposure to design and analysis of optical components and systems.
- The salary range for this role is $184,000 - $202,000 plus a competitive equity grant and comprehensive benefits package. Final compensation will be based on skills, qualifications, experience, and geographic location as assessed during the interview process.

Compensation
- The salary range for this role is $184,000 - $202,000 plus a competitive equity grant and comprehensive benefits package.
- Final compensation will be based on skills, qualifications, experience, and geographic location as assessed during the interview process.
- At Muon salary is only part of our total compensation package.
