About the role

  • The Banner is looking for an ambitious journalist to cover growth and development in Montgomery County, Maryland.
  • In this role, you'll focus primarily on residential and commercial development, and its intersection with local government and politics, while jumping in on breaking news and other assignments as needed.
  • You'll produce bold, accountability-focused journalism that helps readers understand Montgomery County's challenges and considers long-term solutions for the region's affordability crisis.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with The Banner's audience and data teams to engage the audience and distribute your stories across all platforms.
  • Familiarity with audience metrics, social media and SEO to drive audience growth and digital subscriptions
  • Be at the forefront of building something new.
  • You'll develop a strong source network across the development community, including builders, planners, housing experts, and lawmakers, while collaborating with The Banner's business team, data team and visuals staff.
  • Work together. We collaborate to create something special. Together we challenge assumptions, trust each other, take risks, and foster transparent and direct communication.

Compensation

  • $65,000 - $95,000 Individual pay may vary from the target range and is determined by several factors including experience, internal pay equity, and other relevant business considerations.
  • We periodically review all teammates' pay to ensure a great compensation package that is fair and equal across the board.
