About the role

  • The Department of Anesthesiology at the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) seeks a board certified / board eligible physician anesthesiologist to serve as Vice Chair of the Community Division.
  • This position provides operational, clinical, and strategic leadership across MCW's community-based anesthesiology practice, which spans two community hospitals and four ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs) in the greater Milwaukee area.
  • Serve as the senior physician leader for the Community Division, with full accountability for operations, physician recruitment, and budget/financial performance across all community sites.

Responsibilities

  • Lead recruitment, onboarding, and retention strategy for community-based anesthesiology faculty and advanced practice providers (APPs).
  • Own the divisional budget, including staffing models, capital and operating expenses, and financial performance across all sites.
  • Clinical 50% - maintain an active clinical anesthesia practice within the community division.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Chair or Chair-Designate.
  • In this role, the successful candidate will oversee and optimize operations across each of our sites, partner with dyad leaders to increase procedural volume, and adjust staffing ratios to ensure the delivery of safe, evidence-based care.
  • This individual will play a significant role across our community hospitals and ambulatory surgery centers, developing strategy for expansion and continued growth in support of the patients of southeast Wisconsin and the surrounding region.

Nice to have

  • Prior experience in physician leadership and multi-site operational oversight strongly preferred.
  • Experience with community hospital and ambulatory surgery center anesthesia operations preferred.

  • Approximately 1,780 MCW physicians and approximately 905 advanced practice providers care for more than 484,000 patients of all ages annually at Froedtert Hospital, Zablocki VA Medical Center, Children's Wisconsin, and many other hospitals
