Responsibilities

  • Review drawings and specifications from contract documents (RFPs, specs) to determine quantities and calculate pricing.
  • Perform detailed takeoffs for self-performed work and price assigned trades.
  • Support subcontractor and supplier buyout for assigned trades.
  • We're hiring an Estimator II to prepare detailed, accurate cost estimates for GSI's heavy civil and geohazard mitigation projects - earthwork, formwork, reinforced concrete, shotcrete, drainage, foundations, and retaining structures - from schematic design through final construction documents.
  • You'll own assigned trades and portions of preconstruction projects end-to-end, working closely with Operations, Superintendents, and the broader estimating team.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of construction estimating experience.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with subcontractors, owners, and team members.
  • Working knowledge of heavy civil construction, including earthwork, formwork, reinforced concrete, shotcrete, drainage, foundations, and retaining structures.
  • Familiarity with construction management, architecture, or engineering.
  • Working knowledge of the trades involved in estimating and constructing heavy civil infrastructure, including how scopes of work fit together.
  • Ability to work additional hours as needed to meet project deadlines.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office and Excel.

Nice to have

  • Knowledge of the construction drilling industry.
  • Experience with estimating software (B2W preferred
  • HCSS HeavyBid, Bluebeam, or Excel also useful).
  • Physical Demands & Work Environment
  • Combination of office-based estimating work and field site assessments.
  • Approximately 15-25% travel within the region for site visits and client meetings.
