About the role
- As our Special Projects O&M Technician (Level 3), you will serve as the premier technical field expert in our Special Projects division.
- You will work independently in high-voltage environments without direct supervision, leading complex inspections, specialized engineering project executions, advanced troubleshooting, and critical system diagnostics.
- You will follow a transparent Field Tech Development Pathway with clear, capability-based advancement to Technician Level 4.
Responsibilities
- Promote and lead by example in establishing a culture of safety in all aspects of special project work.
- Create, review, and execute advanced Hazardous Electrical Energy Control procedures, including PLOTO and LOTO Switch plans for management approval.
- Lead comprehensive visual, mechanical, and electrical inspections, testing, and advanced preventative maintenance of various commercial, industrial, and utility-scale PV and energy storage systems.
- Diagnostics & Project Support
- Support the Director, Special Projects in the tracking and communication of project schedules, milestones, deliverables, and the development of technically accurate client proposals.
- Create and maintain detailed, accurate documentation of inspections, maintenance, and repairs with minimal oversight using the company's CMMS platform.
Requirements
- Ability to drive a vehicle confidently and with a high degree of safety.
- Ability to stand for long periods of time and walk distances up to three miles a day across rugged solar field terrain.
- Ability to climb ladders, stairs, scaffolding, and ramps while maintaining three points of contact.
- Safely perform approved hazardous electrical energy control procedures and select the exact PPE required for each task.
- Travel & Schedule (Core Requirement): 75% travel on short notice, including flexibility and willingness to work outside traditional business hours.
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required
- Certifications:

- Associate's degree in electrical engineering or a related technical field highly preferred.
- OSHA 30-hour certification required.
- NFPA 70e certification required (NFPA 70b familiarity is a plus).
- FAA Part 107 Certification (and proficiency operating drones for aerial thermographic purposes) required.
- NABCEP certification (PV Installer, PV Commissioning & Maintenance Specialist, or O&M Specialist) is a plus.
Skills
- Proficient knowledge of electrical systems, solar energy principles, grid-tied systems, power generation, and solar technologies.
- Proficient in the use of specialized electrical and PV-specific diagnostic tools (e.g., I/V Curve Tracers, Meggers, and Isolation testers).
- Ability to read, interpret, and work from complex electrical schematics, engineering drawings, and PV system as-builts.
- Leadership & Competencies:
- Proven ability to work independently while knowing when to escalate or ask for guidance.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities with high attention to detail and accuracy in documentation.
- Company truck, company credit card, vehicle maintenance card, tools, and equipment provided.
Compensation
- $75,000 - $95,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications.
- Travel Notice: This position requires up to 75% travel on short notice, including flexibility to work outside traditional business hours.
- Tuition reimbursement up to $10,000 annually for approved educational programs.
