About the role

  • The Health and Safety Student will actively assist in implementing and monitoring the site-specific safety plan to ensure a secure work environment across the complex, live-airport PACT project.
  • You will work closely with site supervisors and the safety team to promote a "Safety First" culture.
  • This is a 12-16 month co-op student opportunity starting in September 2026.

Responsibilities

  • Support the documentation of incident reports, near-misses, and safety observations.
  • PACT (Pearson Accelerator Construction Team) is a General Partnership of Alberici, Amico, Kenaidan, and Obayashi, supported by design partners Egis, Mott MacDonald, and Weston Williamson + Partners.
  • This multi-year program is designed to address immediate passenger growth demands while preparing Canada's largest airport for the future of air travel-including critical upgrades to airfield and infrastructure, greenhouse gas reduction initiatives, modernization of Terminals 1 and 3, and the creation of a world-class passenger experience.

Requirements

  • The position will be based at our office in Mississauga, Ontario, with visits to the Airport site as required.

Skills

  • Currently enrolled in an Occupational Health and Safety, Construction Management, or related post-secondary program.
  • Basic understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) and standard construction safety practices.
  • Proactive attitude with the ability to confidently communicate safety protocols to diverse teams.
  • Detail-oriented with strong administrative and record-keeping skills.

  • Accompany Health and Safety Managers on daily site walks and safety inspections to identify potential hazards.
  • Assist in coordinating and tracking safety training, including Airport Security Awareness and Health and Safety Awareness modules.
  • Help prepare materials for safety orientations, toolbox talks, and Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) meetings.
