About the role

  • Great Basin College (GBC) is seeking an experienced, collaborative, and forward-thinking Controller to join our leadership team.
  • Reporting to the Vice President for Finance and Operations (VPFO), the Controller plays a critical role in ensuring the financial integrity, accountability, and strategic stewardship of the College's resources.
  • This position provides leadership and oversight for GBC's financial operations, including Accounting, Disbursements, Student Accounts, Travel, Cashiering, Budgeting, Grant Financial Management, and related business services.

Responsibilities

  • Manage year-end financial close processes and coordinate with external auditors.
  • Serve as the institutional lead for compliance with purchasing, travel, and fiscal policies.
  • Collaborate with GBC leadership, system administrators, and external partners to ensure fiscal accountability and continuous improvement of financial systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting (CPA required)
  • Master's degree in Business Administration or related field is highly desirable.
  • Proven knowledge of financial systems, GAAP, internal controls, and governmental or fund accounting principles.
  • Proficiency with modern financial systems, reporting tools, and spreadsheet applications.
  • High degree of integrity, sound judgment, and commitment to ethical financial management.

  • Two years in higher education, government, or nonprofit accounting is highly desirable.

  • Work Environment
  • The Controller is based on the main Elko campus and works closely with leadership and staff across all GBC locations. Occasional travel to statewide or national meetings is required. The position involves managing multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced, professional environment.

  • Administrative Faculty - D
  • This is a 12 month "A" contract, 12 month contracts are used for year round programs.
  • The budgeted salary range for this position is $86,445 - $125,000. Salary is based on relatable education and experience, internal equity and budgets.

Nice to have

  • Five years of progressive financial management experience preferred

Compensation

  • Generous annual and sick leave with 24 annual leave days, a beginning balance of 30 sick leave days.
  • Prepare and oversee annual financial statements and supporting documentation in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
