About the role

  • Capital B is a first-of-its-kind local and national nonprofit news organization reporting for Black communities across the country.
  • We have local newsrooms in Atlanta and Gary, Ind. as well as a national newsroom.
  • By filling the gaps left by mainstream news, we're empowering our audience with civic journalism and authentic storytelling that centers Black voices and experiences.

Responsibilities

  • Build Capital B Augusta's editorial operation from the ground up.
  • Launch and lead our newsletter.
  • Develop recurring newsletter features readers come to rely on.
  • Create short-form video that explains local news, showcases reporting and helps grow Capital B Augusta's audience across social platforms.
  • Build trusted relationships across Black Augusta.
  • Partner with Capital B's audience, product and design teams to grow the newsletter.
  • Help develop responsible AI workflows that make local journalism more useful, accessible and transparent.
  • Build editorial systems that can grow as the newsroom expands.
  • The ability to collaborate across editorial, audience and business teams.
  • You'll build trust throughout the community, grow a loyal audience, establish systems that can scale, and help demonstrate a new model for sustainable, community-centered local journalism.

Requirements

  • Experience with newsletters or audience-focused journalism.

Compensation

  • $90,000-$110,000 Location: Augusta, Georgia Applicants must currently live in the Augusta area or have demonstrated ties to the community.
