About the role

  • This role is accountable for delivering technical expertise and contributing to the development and maintenance of data management practices.
  • The mandate includes designing and implementing business processes, systems, methods and procedures that ensure accurate reconciliation, strong controls, and a high standard of quality and integrity for employer and plan member information.

Responsibilities

  • Build and prepare statistical reports and/or presentations on results, findings, and recommendations related to business process reviews and ongoing data management functions, identifying and documenting trends in data problems and passing on information and suggestions regarding improved data handling and control to the manager.
  • Provide support to product owners by generating and presenting data in a form that assists with business decisions (trends, projections, volumes, etc.).
  • Work with datasets by extracting, transforming, organization, and translating raw data into actionable insight, data workflow, and work-inventory management for the department to maintain service levels, productivity, and standards.
  • Detect and implement solutions to complex data integrity issues with employers and OPTrust business areas.
  • Develop and support initiatives in achieving departmental benchmarks and goals.
  • Develop structured testing of data received to improve business processes.
  • Develop audit programmes to validate the data received from employers.
  • Participate in system design walkthroughs and evaluations.
  • Develop user acceptance test plans, including test strategy, test criteria, and test data identification, resources, and time estimates; implement and control user acceptance test projects, identifying issues with IT as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma.
  • Applied knowledge of business and administrative processes and systems in the financial services sector.
  • Knowledge of electronic data processing and financial system controls and methods to establish operating procedures that ensure control and integrity of data management processes.
  • Experience using MS Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Power BI).
  • Experience with database systems operations.
  • High degree of accountability and personal leadership.
  • Advanced knowledge of pension plan administration and of related legislation/plan provisions, including the OPSEU Pension Plan text, the Pension Benefits Act, the Family Law Act, and federal statutes such as CPP, EI, and the Income Tax Act.
  • Familiar with extracting, transforming, and loading (ETL) methods for large datasets, integrating source data to produce actionable insights.
  • Knowledge of database systems operations and use, spreadsheet applications, and database inquiry languages and products to resolve complex data problems, redesign work processes/procedures, and provide technical assistance/guidance to junior staff.
  • Experience building dashboards using Microsoft Power BI or Tableau.
  • Familiar with SQL and writing scripts to extract data.
  • Strong research and analytical skills to identify and resolve complex membership data problems and improve operating/control procedures and efficiency and make related recommendations.
  • Strong organizational skills to balance workload and set priorities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Nice to have

  • Experience with RPA or other automation development is highly preferred.

Compensation

  • Lead the batch data remediation processes for batch extracts, including Annual Pension Statement (APS).
  • Support generating remediation information for the Annual Valuation Extract (AVE) purposes to reduce remedial process time.
  • Perform annual update and verification of system tables.
  • Represent the data management group in special project work teams related to the design testing and implementation of new system applications as well as annual project deliverables. Examples of key tasks include:
