About the role

  • The role operates under the direction of the Senior Vice President of Government and Comm unity Relations an d within an assigned portfolio, has wide latitude for initiative and judgement.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the GovCo team and the External Affairs division to develop and implement comprehensive engagement plans.
  • Develop, implement and oversee comprehensive engagement strategies to advance NYCEDC's polic ies and prioritie s about NYCEDC's Brooklyn - based and citywide transportation projects, and other areas and initiatives as assigned
  • Oversee the creation and delivery of PowerPoint presentations, memos or strategic plans for key stakeholders (e.g. EDC senior staff, City Hall, elected officials, community boards, community-based organizations and other external partners).
  • Build relationships with key stakeholders across the organization and other city agencies to support the team's objectives and outcomes.
  • Identify and proactively manage emerging issues, vulnerabilities, and opportunities affecting NYCEDC
  • Help create a culture within the team that supports professional development and career growth.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in a related field (e.g., political science, public policy, or communications)
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience working with elected officials, public agencies, campaigns, and/or community-based organizations
  • Experience with New York City land use policies, procedures, and public approval processes
  • Experience managing and coaching staff
  • Ability to travel throughout the five boroughs and attend evening meetings as needed
  • New York City residency required within 180 days of hire
  • The role requires strong political acumen, strategic thinking and the ability to navigate intertwined government and community relationships.

  • Ability to anticipate challenges and develop practical, creative solutions
  • Strategic and analytical thinker with the ability to build consensus among diverse stakeholders on complex projects
