About the role
- We're seeking an enthusiastic Staff Software Engineer to join our fast-growing data company.
- This is a full-time position based out of Fivetran's Toronto office.
- Our hybrid work model offers a blend of remote flexibility and in-person collaboration.
Responsibilities
- Write and deliver code reliably, along with automated tests (unit and integration).
- Optimize critical parts of the code.
- Lead team projects. Identify risks and break down projects into tasks for one or more engineers with effort estimates.
- Drive innovation by experimenting with new technologies and problem solving approaches.
- Independently create technical designs for major features while actively seeking feedback.
- Resolve customer issues in collaboration with customer support.
- Work across the software development lifecycle: requirements, design, prototype, implementation, review, release, and monitoring.
- Experience developing reliable software with high-volume data management under strict SLAs
Requirements
- With Fivetran, customer data arrives in their warehouses, canonical and ready to query, with no engineering or maintenance required.
Skills
- Expert in Java development
- Experience working with popular cloud platforms (e.g. AWS, GCP, Azure)
- Expert in database internal architecture (e.g. you can explain how a database internally responds to particular events and requests)
- Knowledge of popular NoSQL databases (e.g. MongoDB, Amazon DynamoDB)
- Knowledge of and appreciation for clean code practices
- Leverages and keeps up with the frontier of agentic AI development
- Experience working with MongoDB and/or Amazon DynamoDB change data capture
- Experience developing data integration tools (ETL or ELT)
- Experience identifying and optimizing performance bottlenecks in distributed systems
