Responsibilities
- The role assists with sponsor requirements, eligibility guidance, budget forms, internal routing, cost-sharing documentation, compliance review, and coordination with the Office of Research and Sponsored Project Administration (ORSPA) and other university partners.
- The position supports proposals and related award actions for a wide range of federal, state, foundation, nonprofit, and private sponsors, including revised budgets, scopes of work, certifications, and sponsor requests.
- The role also serves as a resource to faculty by developing templates, timelines, checklists, presentations, and other tools that improve proposal preparation and sponsored project understanding.
- This position requires strong communication, judgment, organization, problem-solving, teamwork, and the ability to manage urgent or competing requests while maintaining effective working relationships.
- Perform funding searches to help identify potential funding opportunities.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree and five (5) years of experience appropriate to the area of assignment/field
- Experience supporting proposal development, grant submissions, sponsored project administration, or research advancement services in a university, nonprofit, government, or related setting.
- Strong working knowledge of proposal development requirements, sponsor guidelines, internal routing processes, and grants and contracts administration.
- Strong familiarity with federal submission systems and OMB requirements, including working knowledge of Grants.gov, Research.gov, and other sponsor portals.
- Experience with foundation, nonprofit, or philanthropic sponsors, including the ability to learn sponsor specific requirements and submission portals.
- Knowledge of ASU financial, proposal, and research management tools, or experience using comparable university systems.
- Ability to navigate complex environments with evolving priorities, communication plans, deadlines, and stakeholder needs.
- Ability to provide guidance to new staff on department policy, practice, workflows, and procedures, including serving as a mentor when assigned.
- Knowledge of applicable policies, procedures, and regulations governing grants and contracts.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, database systems, and information sharing tools.
- Experience working with federal sponsors such as the National Science Foundation and U.S. Department of Education, or the ability to apply prior federal proposal experience to similar sponsors.
- Strong problem solving skills, including the ability to take initiative, set priorities, remain flexible, and escalate urgent or conflicting requests when needed.
- Ability to develop schedules, action plans, proposal timelines, and tracking tools to meet project or team goals.
- Strong ability to understand user needs, requirements, and requests in order to identify priorities and support timely proposal development.
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to explain requirements clearly and maintain effective professional working relationships.
- Ability to prepare detailed proposal documents, forms, budget materials, reports, and related submission materials.
Compensation
- $66,200 - $80,000 per year
