About the role

  • Non-operative sports medicine providers are responsible for providing medical, procedural (injection, splinting, bracing), concussion care, and postoperative management of patients with musculoskeletal injuries.
  • This position will primarily work in the Bend and Redmond clinics, though a presence in some of the outreach clinics is also expected.
  • As a member of the sports medicine team, non-operative sports medicine providers are also expected to participate in the coverage of athletic events in the community (high school football, basketball, training room etc ).

Responsibilities

  • Maintain unrestricted DEA number.
  • The team will collaborate extensively with the robust sports medicine program designed to meet the growing needs of the Central Oregon community.
  • May perform emergency procedures in clinic.
  • May include reading and interpreting their own x-rays as part of the patient's assessment.

Requirements

  • Continually (75% or more): Use of clear and audible speaking voice and the ability to hear normal speech
  • Never (0%): Climbing ladder/ step-stool, lifting/carrying/pushing or pulling 25-50 pounds, ability to hear whispered speech level.

  • Must have excellent communication skills and ability to interact with a diverse population and professionally represent SCHS.

  • Excellent organizational skills, written and oral communication and customer service skills, particularly in dealing with stressful personal interactions.

  • DEPARTMENTAL SUMMARY: The Orthopedic, Neurosurgery & Physiatry Service Line at St.
  • This service line includes approximately 60 providers representing the full spectrum of neuromusculoskeletal care across inpatient, outpatient, ambulatory surgery centers and clinics.
  • POSITION OVERVIEW: Non-operative sports medicine providers are responsible for providing medical, procedural (injection, splinting, bracing), concussion care, and postoperative management of patients with musculoskeletal injuries.
  • Work schedule: Physician will have roughly 32 patient facing hours per week as a 1.0FTE which is prorated proportionate to their FTE.
  • This will be a blend of scheduled clinic visits, NowCare urgent visits, and athletic event coverage including charting of patients and other necessary duties, recognizing that the minimum requirement may fluctuate up and down based on direct patient care.

  • ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES: (May perform additional duties of similar complexity within SCHS as required or assigned)
  • Clinical Expectations:
  • Examines, diagnoses, and provides a broad scope of musculoskeletal conditions and concussions including conservative care and treatment, acute care and elective surgical procedures.
  • Orders and interprets appropriate laboratory, imaging, and other diagnostic procedures. May include reading and interpreting their own x-rays as part of the patient's assessment.
  • Interprets and integrates data to determine diagnosis, and therapeutic plan.
  • Administers and prescribes medications in compliance with state law and practice guidelines.
  • Orders and performs appropriate medical and surgical procedures in accordance with State law and practice guidelines.
  • Instructs patients and family regarding medications and treatments.
  • Educates patients regarding health, illness prevention, and healing. Recommends community resources to meet patient and family needs.
  • Maintains and reviews patient records, charts, and other pertinent information, documenting clearly and concisely.
  • Triages patient telephone calls, providing consultation as needed.
  • Communicates effectively with colleagues, patients, physicians, and administration.
  • Maintains quality clinical practice by selecting appropriate avenues for professional growth.
  • May perform additional duties of similar complexity within the organization, as required or a ssigned.
