About the role

  • SUMMARY You will orchestrate complex technical programs from conception through delivery, coordinating work across autonomous scientists, engineers, and technical specialists.
  • This role requires managing parallel workstreams where hardware development, R&D, manufacturing, and scientific validation all happen simultaneously with interdependent deliverables.

Responsibilities

  • Lead technical programs involving hardware components and scientific validation across multiple parallel workstreams
  • Manage program schedules, budgets, and resource allocation across multiple evolving projects
  • Partner with hardware engineering on component selection, design validation, and manufacturing readiness
  • Manage vendor relationships with component suppliers, manufacturers, and testing facilities
  • Create and maintain technical program documentation while respecting contributor autonomy

Requirements

  • 6+ years technical program management experience, 3+ years at hardware or hardtech companies
  • Experience coordinating parallel workstreams in flat, project or research based organizations
  • Direct experience with hardware product development lifecycle and scientific research translation
  • Experience coordinating autonomous technical contributors across multiple scientific and engineering domains

Nice to have

  • B.S. or higher degree in Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or a related discipline in the physical or engineering sciences

Compensation

  • $150,000-$275,000 USD
  • Substrate will provide reasonable accommodations to applicants with disabilities.
