About the role
- This is a full-time instructional role responsible for teaching both the fiber optic installer and the network cable installation network cable program within an intensive, cohort-based model.
- This position is available at the Bloomington, Fort Wayne, and Valparaiso campuses, with one instructor per campus.
- Employer Engagement and Career Placement - Plan and coordinate the culminating employer fair for each cohort in collaboration with Career Link, managing employer invitations, logistics, and student-employer connections.
Requirements
- A minimum of three years of verifiable field experience in low-voltage cabling, copper and/or fiber optic installation, or related telecommunications/infrastructure work.
- Experience must be documentable, as verifiable field experience is a prerequisite for BICSI Technician certification.
- Demonstrated ability to teach technical, hands-on content to adult learners through prior instruction, corporate training, apprenticeship leadership, or equivalent experience.
- Comfort with data entry, tracking, and reporting for program metrics and gift reporting.
Nice to have
- ETA Fiber Optic Installer certification, or equivalent (for example, FOA or the BICSI fiber track).
- Prior experience in workforce development, community college instruction, or apprenticeship program delivery.
- Experience with employer engagement, career fairs, or job placement programming.
- Knowledge of the data center, telecommunications, or low-voltage contracting industry.
- Familiarity with BICSI ATF facility requirements.
- Working Conditions
- Work is performed in the classroom, hands-on laboratory, and general campus environments.
- Frequent standing, walking, and demonstrating during lab instruction.
Skills
- Manual dexterity sufficient to demonstrate cable termination, splicing, and the use of hand and power tools.
- Occasional lifting and carrying of training equipment, tools, and materials (up to approximately 40 pounds).
