About the role

  • Oversee all accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, and financial reporting systems
  • Prepare and review financial statements, reports, and supporting schedules

Responsibilities

  • Analyze financial data and provide insights to support strategic decision-making
  • Develop and maintain balance sheet reconciliation processes and supporting schedules
  • Perform cash flow management and forecasting
  • In concert with the Chief Financial Officer, develop team goals and assist direct reports in setting work objectives
  • Step in to support operational tasks when staffing gaps arise
  • Partner with senior leadership on financial strategy and organizational growth
  • They are an excellent people manager who leads with clarity, accountability, and care, and a diligent communicator who can translate complex financial information into accessible, actionable insights.

Requirements

  • Minimum 7-10 years of progressive nonprofit accounting/finance experience, including leadership roles
  • Strong experience with multi-entity and nonprofit/grant accounting environments
  • Expertise in GAAP, internal controls, and financial compliance
  • Proficiency in accounting systems (e.g., NetSuite, FundEZ, or similar ERP platforms)
  • Experience managing fiscally sponsored projects and grant reporting
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate complex financial concepts
  • Experience supporting cross-functional teams and organizational initiatives
  • Demonstrated experience managing audits, tax filings, and financial reporting
  • High level of integrity, professionalism, and accountability
  • Strategic thinker with a hands-on, solution-oriented approach
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong leadership and team development capabilities
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with both finance and non-finance stakeholders

Nice to have

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA and/or MBA preferred)
