About the role
- Since 1980, we've helped pioneer the world of biotech in our fight against the world's toughest diseases.
- With our focus on four therapeutic areas -Oncology, Inflammation, General Medicine, and Rare Disease- we reach millions of patients each year.
- Amgen is advancing a broad and deep pipeline of medicines to treat cancer, heart disease, inflammatory conditions, rare diseases, and obesity and obesity-related conditions.
Responsibilities
- Design and execute MS-based mechanistic studies of protein fragmentation pathways in biologics, including stable-isotope solvent-labeling approaches such as D₂O and H₂¹⁸O oxygen-incorporation experiments to distinguish hydrolytic, enzymatic, and chemical fragmentation mechanisms.
- Translate mechanistic findings into testable hypotheses and practical mitigation strategies, including molecule design (sequence selection), formulation considerations, and storage recommendations.
- In this vital role you will generate mechanistic insights that directly influence analytical control strategy, molecule design, and formulation development across Amgen's pipeline.
Nice to have
- PhD at the time of appointment in Analytical chemistry, physical chemistry, or related life sciences disciplines
- Demonstrated expertise with ChemDraw and mechanistic biomolecular chemistry, including the ability to propose, illustrate, and evaluate reaction mechanisms relevant to protein and peptide degradation pathways.
- Strong understanding of protein chemistry, protein degradation pathways, peptide mapping, and biologics analytical characterization
- Experience with LC-MS/MS, high-resolution mass spectrometry and advanced protein characterization
- Excellent critical thinking, organizational, and communication skills
- Passion to learn and work collaboratively within a large team of scientists with diverse technical and cultural backgrounds
