About the role
- AI Enablement is a matrixed function at Safe Software, with engineers embedded across the FME product groups.
- This is not primarily a feature-development role.
- You will be embedded in the FME Flow team and work closely with our Principal Software Developer for AI Enablement to establish best practices, then champion and embed those practices within your development team.
Responsibilities
- Deliver reliable, maintainable code changes with growing independence, and troubleshoot and resolve issues with persistence.
- Collaborate across QA, UX, and Product, support more junior developers and interns, and contribute ideas that improve quality, workflow, and how the team uses AI.
- Feel empowered to share your ideas and implement them with high autonomy and team support.
- You'll collaborate day-to-day with developers, quality analysts, product managers, and UX designers.
- Maintain a healthy balance of your personal and work life without splitting yourself in two.
Requirements
- Roughly 2+ years of professional software development experience, with a track record of delivering reliably and with growing independence.
- Proficiency in full-stack development with Java and TypeScript, and the ability to write maintainable, well-tested code
- Hands-on experience with - or strong curiosity about - AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Claude Code, Copilot, Cursor, or similar).

Nice to have
- Proficiency in Python and other scripting languages
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and automated testing.
- Exposure to AI coding agents or other emerging AI development workflows.
- Familiarity with Safe Software's FME Flow or comparable automation/server platforms.
- Experience with REST APIs, webhooks, or cloud services (e.g., AWS).
