About the role

  • This is not a desk-based engineering role.
  • The position spends significant time in labs, ceilings, server rooms, and equipment spaces-installing hardware, running cabling, troubleshooting issues in real time, and keeping systems operational.
  • This position plays a key role in maintaining operational continuity, supporting audits, and driving continuous improvement across facilities and technical systems.

Responsibilities

  • Run, label, and terminate low-voltage and data cabling to professional standards; perform cable testing and documentation.
  • Coordinate vendors, manage parts inventories, and maintain administrative records, including frequent updates to vital equipment monitoring system notification lists for each lab.
  • Support electro-mechanical equipment and automation initiatives, building toward maintenance and repair expertise of a state-of-the-art automated order fulfillment system.
  • BioLegend is seeking a highly hands-on, "wrench-turning" Facilities Engineer - Physical Security & Controls to support a multi-building laboratory and office campus.
  • This role is deeply involved in the physical installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of systems-not just design or oversight.
  • Perform and excel independently to design, plan, execute, and maintain security, monitoring, data, and control systems, and miscellaneous low voltage applications.
  • Install, maintain, and repair security cameras, ID access systems, burglar alarms, equipment monitoring, and facility control systems across labs, offices, and campus.
  • Oversee and support maintenance tasks and projects carried out by facility associates across multiple technical areas
  • Work directly with warehouse, manufacturing, laboratory, and quality teams to ensure all technical systems support organizational objectives
  • Perform as project manager for various Facilities and Operations related technical projects

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in an Engineering discipline with 3 years' experience in facilities, low-voltage, or physical security systems installation and maintenance.
  • High School/GED with 10 years of highly relevant experience.
  • Other projects or responsibilities as required.

Nice to have

  • Experience with operation and maintenance of fire alarm and sprinkler systems, including coordination/testing with licensed vendors.
  • Familiarity with access control and CCTV platforms (e.g., badge systems, VMS/NVRs) and fundamentals of PLC/BMS/BAS control systems.
  • Experience with CMMS, vendor coordination, inventory control, and diligent documentation practices.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills across electrical/electronic and electro-mechanical systems
  • ability to read wiring diagrams and schematics.
  • Hands-on experience pulling and terminating low-voltage/data cabling and using test tools (e.g., multimeter, toner).
  • 4 years of facilities experience in the Biotech industry and/or lab equipment maintenance experience.
  • 2 years of experience using a robust and auditable quality maintenance system, including maintenance records and non-conformance investigation.

Compensation
