About the role

  • The Communications Operator covers the switchboard on three different 8 hour shifts (AM, PM and NOC), covering the switchboard 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
  • This position facilitates the communication of emergency situations with an overhead page, radio communication or electronic page.
  • The Communication Operator is also the hospital's first contact with the community and must provide accurate, courteous and prompt responses.

Requirements

  • Must be able to respond quickly to emergency situations.

Skills

  • Must be able to master the use of the PBX switchboard, juggle several callers at once and respond to calls accurately, quickly and politely.
  • The job requires long periods of time sitting with repetitious functions.
  • Possesses basic computer skills including Word and Excel.
