Patient Care
About the role
- Works under the supervision of the Registered Nurse, Charge Nurse, and the medical direction of the Emergency Department Physician.
- Responsible for providing assistance to physicians and RN in the delivery of patient care to include invasive and non-invasive procedures: EKG's, IVs, phlebotomy.
Responsibilities
- Monitor/supports personal departmental productivity through volunteering for and recommending creative changes to include flexing and shift changes to meet the needs of the department.
- Demonstrates the ability to build trusting collaborative relationships with a multi-disciplinary team to support patient care needs.
- Maintains a safe patient care environment by complying with RHS policies/procedures/regulatory requirements that support National Safety Patient Goals and Quality Initiatives. Recognizes and reports variances and provides resolutions.
- Supports and/or provides suggestions for cost containment. Provides feedback in new equipment/product evaluations
- Participates positively in training and support of all team members, volunteers and students as needed. Engages new team members to create a supportive environment.
- Supports and/or provides suggestions for cost containment. Provides feedback in new equipment/product evaluations; identifies and recommends solutions for cost savings and waste reduction.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED, (Required)
- Accurately completes all required clinical documentation consistently per RHS standards.
- Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span.
- Education
- Program Graduate, Paramedic or Emergency Medical Technician training course (Preferred)
- Experience
- Licenses and Certifications
- EMT-B does NOT qualify - see below qualifications*
- Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) - National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) Advanced, Intermediate, or Paramedic ONLY (Required) OR Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) - Virginia Department of Health Professions (VDHP) Advanced, Intermediate, or Paramedic ONLY (Required) OR Military Experience - US Military Equivalent military experience in lieu of EMT certification (A, I, and P) will be accepted (i.e., medical technician or corps (Required)
- CPR/BLS Certification - American Heart Association/American Red Cross/American Safety and Health Institute (AHA/ARC) (Required to start employment)
- ACLS Provider - American Heart Association/American Red Cross/American Safety and Health Institute (AHA/ARC) (Required to start employment)
- PALS Provider - American Heart Association/American Red Cross/American Safety and Health Institute (AHA/ARC) ( Required within 180 days of starting)
