About the role

  • Each year, the company manufactures thousands of miles of underground and submarine cables and systems for power transmission and distribution, as well as medium low voltage cables for the construction and infrastructure sectors.
  • We also produce a comprehensive range of optical fibers, copper cables and connectivity for voice, video and data transmission for the telecommunication sector.
  • The CAPEX Commodity Manager - North America is a member of the North America Non-Raw Materials (NRM or Indirect) Purchasing Organization reporting to the Director of NRM Purchasing.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute North America CAPEX sourcing strategies aligned with business growth, manufacturing expansion, modernization, and cost reduction objectives.
  • Manage sourcing activities for capital equipment, construction services, engineering services, installation, automation, fabrication, utilities, infrastructure, and plant improvement projects.
  • Build and maintain supplier relationships to support complex manufacturing and industrial CAPEX requirements.
  • Lead competitive bid events including RFIs, RFQs, RFPs, technical-commercial evaluations, auctions, supplier interviews, and award recommendations.
  • Support CAPEX projects from early planning and budgeting through supplier selection, contract award, delivery, installation, and project closeout.
  • Coordinate with Engineering and Operations to validate technical requirements and ensure comparable supplier proposals.
  • Manage procurement milestones to support project schedules and avoid delays in equipment delivery, installation, or commissioning.
  • Lead commercial negotiations for major CAPEX agreements, including equipment purchases, construction contracts, installation services, engineering agreements, and service packages.
  • Partner with Legal, Finance, Risk Management, and HSE to ensure contracts comply with company policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Support development and use of standard contract templates, terms and conditions, bid packages, and supplier qualification documents.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Engineering, Business, Finance, Operations Management, or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in strategic sourcing, procurement, project management, engineering procurement, or CAPEX procurement.
  • Experience supporting capital projects in a manufacturing, industrial, construction, infrastructure, or engineering environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical scopes of work, bid packages, supplier proposals, and commercial contracts.
  • Strong analytical skills with ability to evaluate cost breakdowns, total cost of ownership, payment milestones, and supplier risk.
  • Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally with Engineering, Operations, Finance, Legal, EHS, Maintenance, and plant teams.
  • Proficiency with ERP systems, Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and procurement tools.
  • Ability to travel across North America as required.

Nice to have

  • Experience with SAP, Ariba, Coupa, Oracle, or similar ERP/procurement platforms.
  • Familiarity with Incoterms, import/export considerations, equipment warranties, lien waivers, retainage, bonding, insurance, and contractor safety requirements.
  • Certification such as CPSM, CPM, CSCP, PMP, or Lean Six Sigma.
  • Experience managing multi-site procurement requirements across the U.S., Canada, and/or Mexico.
  • Strong understanding of financial controls, capital approval processes, and procurement audit requirements.
