About the role

  • We have three main manufacturing departments, Casting, Machining, and Press Assembly.
  • Tasks and Responsibilities: As a Furnace Operator at Astemo Rock Spring, Inc., you will play an important role in supporting the Casting department.
  • Physical Demands: - Ability to work in a manufacturing environment, including standing for extended periods, performing physically demanding tasks, and occasionally lifting heavy objects.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Leads & Supervisors in operating/maintaining casting melt process / Equipment and following established procedures, ensuring safe and efficient operation.
  • Learn to monitor the casting process, inspect for quality, and detecting any defects or variations, reporting any concerns to the Leads & Supervisors.
  • Support routine maintenance activities on the Furnace / equipment, such as cleaning, lubrication, and minor repairs, to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
  • Collaborate with the Leads & Supervisors troubleshoot Furnace / Equipment issues and implement basic corrective actions, escalating more complex issues as necessary.
  • Assist in the setup and changeover of Furnace or equipment, working under the guidance of the Leads, Supervisors & Support Teams.
  • Follow safety guidelines and maintain a clean and organized work area, prioritizing safety always.
  • Follow or fill out all appropriate check / PM documents as needed.
  • Adherence to quality standards and production targets, as guided by the Leads and Supervisors.
  • Reporting to the Shift Supervisor or Leads, you will gain hands-on experience and receive comprehensive training in operating and maintaining casting melt process and equipment.
  • This position offers an opportunity to develop a strong foundation of technical skills and gain an understanding of casting processes under the guidance of experienced supervisors, leads & associates.

Requirements

  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment, including standing for extended periods, performing physically demanding tasks, and occasionally lifting heavy objects.

Nice to have

  • Relevant coursework or certifications in casting or a related field are a plus, demonstrating a foundational understanding of casting principles.

Skills

  • Demonstrated interest in melting process and chip / briquette melting, showing eagerness to learn and grow in the field.
  • Ability to follow instructions and learn new skills quickly, adapting to changing responsibilities.
  • Ability to transfer / move dross / ingot / hot aluminum with supplied tools in a safe and timely manner.
  • Minimum Experienced Preferred:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Basic knowledge of casting processes is advantageous, although not required.
  • Ability to follow instructions, work in a fast-paced environment, and adapt to changing priorities.
