Responsibilities
- Perform dimensional, visual, and functional inspection of incoming materials, components, hardware, chemicals, and energetic materials using calibrated measurement tools including calipers, micrometers, thread gauges, surface plates, Visual Measuring Machines, and other precision instruments.
- Disposition received materials as Accept, Reject, or Hold/Use-As-Is/Repair with documented rationale; initiate Nonconforming Material (NCM) tags and support documentation for rejected or questionable material.
- Maintain working knowledge of material specifications for energetics related inputs including propellants, pyrotechnic compounds, oxidizers, fuels, metal parts used in energetic assemblies, and associated hardware.
- Maintain the quarantine area and nonconforming material log; ensure segregation is maintained throughout the disposition cycle.
- Maintain calibration and traceability records for all inspection equipment; enter receiving data into the facility's ERP/MRP or quality management system accurately and in a timely manner.
- Interpret and apply applicable military and industry specifications including MIL-DTL, MIL-STD, and ASTM standards; where requirements are not directly mapped to a receiving inspection criterion, identify the applicable requirement, determine a measurable acceptance method, and document the interpreted standard used for disposition.
- Prepare and maintain statistical sampling records and incoming inspection data logs to support quality trend analysis and supplier performance monitoring.
- Support internal and third-party quality audits (AS9100, ISO 9001, ATF, or customer source inspection) by presenting receiving inspection records and demonstrating process compliance.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Minimum 5 years of experience in receiving inspection, quality inspection, or quality control role within a manufacturing environment
- Demonstrated experience independently reading and interpreting engineering drawings and specifications, including situations where complete inspection criteria were not pre-established
- Proficiency with precision measurement tools: vernier and digital calipers, outside/inside micrometers, depth micrometers, thread plug and ring gauges, surface plates, height gauges, and dial indicators
- Familiarity with military specifications (MIL-DTL, MIL-STD) and the ability to independently identify and apply applicable inspection requirements
- Must be a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident
- Complete all required explosive safety training and maintain currency of training certifications as required by the facility's Explosive Safety Officer.
Nice to have
- Completion of college-level coursework in engineering graphics, blueprint reading, GD&T, or materials science
- 1-2 years of coursework toward an engineering or engineering technology degree is an ideal profile even without completing the degree
- Prior experience in a role requiring independent technical judgment such as quality technician, manufacturing technician with inspection responsibility, or engineering aide
- Ability to lift, move or carry items or equipment up to 50 pounds
- Ability to stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl for extended periods in an outdoor industrial environment
- Ability to work in a high-hazard explosive manufacturing environment with exposure to heat, cold, noise, dust, and explosives
- Physical and/or Government Mandated Requirements
- Ability to wear required PPE, including flame-resistant clothing and other safety equipment, and comply with site-specific requirements such as end-of-day showering
Skills
- Working knowledge of GD&T per ASME Y14.5, including interpretation of form, orientation, location, and runout tolerances
- Experience with nonconforming material control processes, including NCR generation, quarantine management, and MRB participation
