About the role

  • The Die Cast Setup Technician is responsible for setting up, changing over, and preparing high pressure aluminum die casting machines and auxiliary equipment for production.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain setup sheets, process documentation, and production records.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on scrap reduction, uptime, and efficiency.
  • Maintain housekeeping and organization in setup and production areas.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of die cast machines, tooling, and casting processes.
  • Ability to read setup sheets, blueprints, and process documentation.
  • Mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills required.
  • Ability to safely operate cranes, forklifts, and die handling equipment.
  • Experience with cold chamber aluminum die casting equipment.
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing and continuous improvement concepts.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Experience in high pressure aluminum die casting setup or manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Familiarity with hydraulics, pneumatics, robotics, and automation systems preferred.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Preferred Skills
  • Understanding of casting defects and process troubleshooting.
  • Basic computer and data entry skills.

Nice to have

  • Set process parameters including temperatures, pressures, shot speeds, intensification, and timing.
  • Verify proper operation of hydraulics, cooling systems, lubrication systems, and automation equipment.
  • Troubleshoot setup and process issues related to casting quality, cycle time, and machine performance.
  • Assist in startup approval and first-piece inspections to ensure quality standards are met.
  • Coordinate setup activities with production, tooling, maintenance, and quality departments.
  • Ensure proper die clamping, alignment, venting, and water connections.
  • Follow all safety procedures including lockout/tagout and safe die handling practices.
  • High school diploma or GED required

Skills

  • Install and remove dies, trim tools, shot-end components, and auxiliary equipment.
