About the role

  • Agile Six is looking for a Technical Software Architect to join a cross-functional team working with the Department of Veterans Affairs on an integrated patient portal experience on VA.gov.
  • Please note that this is a Key Personnel role, as stipulated by our contract, considered "essential to work performance".
  • The resumes of Key Personnel are subject to government review and approval, and any changes to Key Personnel (such as voluntary or involuntary separation) may require government oversight.

Responsibilities

  • Lead software architecture and design to support MHV project needs, leveraging best practices including modularity, scalability, accessibility, and seamless EHR integration.
  • Leverage, evangelize, and support the adoption of AI-powered coding tools such as GitHub Copilot, as well as other enabling technologies such as MCP servers and edge computing to rapidly implement features, identify and fix bugs, validate ideas, and enhance team practices.
  • Lead by taking initiative on challenging tasks, supporting and mentoring teammates, and fostering a collaborative, positive environment that enables successful delivery.
  • Collaborate with other teammates through code reviews, pair coding, mentorship, training, knowledge sharing, etc.
  • As an agile team member, support the team and Product Owner to ensure that work is accurately described and appropriately prioritized, including providing input into user story acceptance criteria and sizing
  • Occasionally participating in or otherwise supporting business development efforts, including code or design challenges, writing or reviewing proposal responses, etc.

  • In this role, you will lead the evolution and maintenance of the architecture, leveraging Ruby on Rails, Git, React, React Native, JavaScript, TypeScript, Node.js, GraphQL, FHIR, HL7 and DevSecOps practices.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience as a software engineer including prior experience as a software architect, tech lead, or other senior engineering leader.
  • 3+ years of that experience working on agile product teams with products that span web and native mobile apps.
  • Experience with DevOps processes and tools.
  • Demonstrated experience with Agile teams, fostering an Agile mindset, facilitating collaboration, and guiding teams in applying Agile principles to deliver value iteratively.
  • Experience working in many different areas of the software stack and solving a variety of engineering problems.
  • Experience in an open-source, collaborative development environment.
  • Has lived and worked in the United States for 3 out of the last 5 years.
