- Position Overview The Lab Assistant plays an important role in supporting laboratory operations and patient care within West Cancer Center.
- This position is responsible for preparing stains, solutions, and culture media, performing waived and moderately complex laboratory tests, and maintaining accurate specimen records.
Responsibilities
- Perform waived and moderately complex laboratory tests in accordance with CLIA standards.
- Maintain accurate specimen records and documentation.
- Monitor and maintain laboratory supply inventory.
- Perform preventive maintenance on equipment to ensure operational readiness.
- Collaborate with physicians, staff, and patients to support seamless laboratory workflows.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Lab Director.
Requirements
- Experience with basic laboratory skills.
- Basic knowledge of laboratory safety and infection control procedures.
- Ability to work effectively in a clinical environment with invasive and non-invasive patient contact.
- Ability to react quickly in emergency situations.
- Education & Experience
- Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Preferred:
- Substitution Allowed:
- Completion of a Phlebotomy Program may be accepted in lieu of direct experience.
- Skills & Abilities
- Ability to perform basic arithmetic calculations.
- Strong verbal communication skills with patients, physicians, and colleagues.
Nice to have
- One (1) year of laboratory experience.
- Certified Phlebotomist.
