About the role

  • Brown & Brown is seeing a Farm & Ranch Underwriter to join our growing team in Greensboro, NC!
  • As a Farm & Ranch Underwriter, you will be responsible for evaluating, selecting, pricing, and managing a profitable portfolio of farm, ranch, and rural property risks.

Responsibilities

  • Manage an assigned renewal book while maintaining profitability, retention, and growth objectives.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with retail agents by providing responsive underwriting support and technical expertise.
  • Collaborate with leadership on underwriting strategies, product enhancements, and portfolio management initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate underwriting documentation and ensure compliance with company guidelines, regulatory requirements, and carrier standards.
  • Monitor market trends, emerging agricultural risks, and industry developments to support sound underwriting decisions.

Requirements

  • The ideal candidate has experience underwriting agricultural and rural property exposures, understands farm operations and associated liability risks, and thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment.
  • Recruiting Vendors must have a valid written agreement and received prior written authorization from an authorized Brown & Brown representative before submitting candidates for any publicly posted role.

Nice to have

  • 3+ years of commercial property/casualty underwriting experience, with Farm & Ranch or Agricultural underwriting experience strongly preferred.

Skills

  • Bachelor's degree preferred or equivalent combination of education and underwriting experience.
  • Strong knowledge of farm, ranch, agribusiness, rural property, and related liability exposures.
  • Excellent analytical, decision-making, negotiation, and risk assessment skills.
  • Ability to interpret underwriting guidelines, policy forms, inspections, and loss information.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with a customer-focused approach.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple deadlines while maintaining exceptional attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and agency management or underwriting systems.
