About the role

  • This is a remote position open to candidates residing in the US.
  • Experience writing clean, efficient, maintainable code and reviewing peer code for correctness and clarity.

Responsibilities

  • Independently deliver well-scoped customer-facing features and platform capabilities from design and implementation through rollout and follow-through in production.
  • Build reliable services, APIs, and web experiences, improving existing systems while shipping new capabilities.
  • Collaborate across Engineering, Product, Design, ML, and platform teams to deliver cohesive customer experiences.
  • Champion, role model, and embed Samsara's cultural principles (Focus on Customer Success, Build for the Long Term, Adopt a Growth Mindset, Be Inclusive, Win as a Team) as we scale globally and across new offices.
  • The software, firmware, and hardware you build will result in real-world impact, helping to keep the lights on, get food into grocery stores, and most importantly, ensure workers return home safely.
  • Samsara engineers enjoy a rare closeness to the end user and you will have the opportunity to participate in customer interviews, collaborate with customer success and product managers, and use metrics to ensure our work is translating into better customer outcomes.
  • We develop the systems, APIs, and customer-facing products that power safety event review, supervisor workflows, driver analytics, and AI-driven experiences across Samsara's Safety organization.
  • Software Engineer I on the team, you will lead the design and evolution of systems that sit at the intersection of real-time data processing, AI-powered insights, and customer-facing product experiences.

Requirements

  • Ability to make thoughtful technical tradeoffs across performance, scalability, maintainability, and delivery speed.

Nice to have

  • Experience working across the stack with modern technologies such as Go, GraphQL, TypeScript, React, and AWS.
  • Familiarity with observability, rollout practices, and monitoring approaches that improve product reliability and operational excellence.
  • Experience operating in fast-paced, highly collaborative environments with distributed teams.

  • The range of annual base salary for full-time employees for this position is below.
