About the role
- Job Description Summary The coder/abstracter is responsible for accurate code assignment of all inpatient, outpatient, and emergency service diagnoses, procedures and conditions as indicated in the patient medical record.
- All work is carried out in accordance with the Health Information Management Department and MUSC approved policies and procedures.
Requirements
- coding certification (e.g., CPC, CCS) required.
- With Associate's degree, minimum of 2-3 years of experience in coding and familiarity with coding software.
- Strong analytical skills and ability to resolve coding issues.
- RHIT, CCS, CCA, CPC, CPC-A, or other coding credential required
- Associate's degree in health information technology or related field or 5 years coding experience; coding certification (e.g., CPC, CCS) required.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
