About the role

The Habitat Program Technician will assist with habitat restoration and management activities on Audubon's Spring Creek Prairie, including implementing the habitat management plan on diverse habitats associated with the tallgrass prairie.
The Habitat Program Technician participates in habitat & Center operations, maintenance, and management.
This is a 6-month full-time assignment, planned to start in

Help implement a habitat management plan on all Spring Creek Prairie terrestrial and aquatic habitats.
Collaborate with staff, interns, students, and volunteers.
Collaborate with Audubon colleagues to foster inclusivity into SCPAC's habitat programs and operations.
Support key operational programs & projects as needed.
Through a collaborative, bipartisan approach across habitats, borders, and the political spectrum, Audubon drives meaningful and lasting conservation outcomes.
Must possess a valid driver's license and can provide own transportation when necessary.

High school diploma and 1-2 years of training in a science-related field or related experience in land management.
Familiarity with Great Plains plant and animal species as required to complete habitat management activities.
Ability to operate various types of equipment in a safe and efficient manner (e.g., lawn mower, chainsaw, tractor, two-way radio, ATV, motor vehicles including a pickup and trailer, etc.).
Ability to follow instructions from colleagues.
Ability to transport a minimum of 60 lbs. and stand/walk for long periods regularly with or without accommodation.
Must be able to bend, twist, push, and pull for duties such as constructing fences, using chainsaws, chopping thistles, and other farm-related activities.
Experience with herbicide application and best practices; pesticide applicator license preferred.
Ability to perform physically, sometimes under adverse conditions or in inclement weather.
Flexibility and a willingness to work alone, with little supervision, and at irregular hours as projects or weather conditions dictate.
Must possess a valid driver's license and can provide own transportation when necessary. Mileage reimbursement is provided.
