About the role
- The Civil Superintendent is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of heavy civil construction projects, ensuring that work is completed safely, efficiently, on schedule, and in accordance with project specifications and regulations.
- This role requires strong leadership, effective communication, and a deep understanding of civil construction practices.
- Promote and enforce safety as the top priority on all job sites.
Responsibilities
- Recruit, train, and develop craft personnel to maintain a high-performing workforce.
- Maintain open lines of communication with field crews, project engineers, safety managers, subcontractors, and clients.
- Monitor and manage the construction schedule, coordinating with contractors and suppliers to ensure the timely delivery of materials and services.
- Monitor project costs to ensure adherence to the budget and implement cost-control measures where necessary.
- Lead and manage a disciplined crew by delegating tasks, setting goals, and maintaining high standards of quality and productivity.
- Proactively identify and report potential issues, including delays, conflicts, and work interferences, and assist in developing effective solutions.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the project management team.
Requirements
- Minimum 10 years of experience in heavy civil construction, with at least 5 years in a supervisory role.
- Proven experience in highway, roadwork, and infrastructure construction projects.
- In-depth knowledge of civil construction practices, materials, and equipment.
- Strong understanding of project scheduling, planning, and cost control.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify and resolve discrepancies.
- Schedule: Typical work hours are Monday-Friday, 6:00 AM - 4:00 PM or 5:00 AM-3:00 PM, with occasional Saturdays or overtime as required.
- Must be able to stand, walk, bend, climb, and lift materials.
- Pre-employment drug screening is required.
- Demonstrated ability to lead crews of 20 or more employees.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Positive attitude with strong motivational and leadership abilities.
- Capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- You must possess a valid driver's license.
- Working Conditions
- Travel: Frequent travel to various job sites throughout Arizona. Future projects may require nationwide travel.
- Environment: Work is performed outdoors at construction sites. Must be able to stand, walk, bend, climb, and lift materials. Exposure to high noise levels and varying weather conditions is expected.
