About the role
- The Clinical Procurement Coordinator (CPC) I is responsible for response to donor referrals, donor evaluation, and donor management, coordination of organ recovery, organ preservation, and organ distribution.
- Represents organ and tissue donation equally.
- Possesses strong interpersonal skills with an ability to work effectively with all stakeholders, particularly with medical professionals and donor families.
Responsibilities
- Manages highly stressful situations in a calm and professional manner by using sufficient judgment and discretion at all times.
- Maintains personal/professional balance; works toward resiliency.
- Documents information in current DNWest's electronic records.
- Assesses hemodynamic stability and develops strategies in conjunction with DNWest's clinical staff to maintain organ function.
- Collaborates with physician and hospital staff to develop plan for referral management from initial referral through declaration of death/DCD (donation after cardiac death) evaluation.
- Performs donor physical assessment.
- Additionally, the CPC I supports donor families, provides family care and may provide families with the option of organ and/or tissue donation.
Requirements
- Ability to provide accurate assessments of job performance and recommend changes in policies, procedures, strategies, and action plans.
- Has 2 years' experience in critical care setting or a minimum of 1 year experience other OPO clinical role.
- Must have ability to travel within the DNWest's service area by car.
- Compassionate, conscientious, and ethical.
- Basic knowledge from prior classroom and/or on the job training.
- Possess strong interpersonal skills which will allow her/him to deal effectively with individuals or group of individuals, particularly medical professionals, and donor families.
- Maintain strong organizational skills that will allow him/her to assess changing environments establish appropriate priorities, handle highly stressful situations in a calm, mature manner, using sufficient judgment and discretion at all times.
- Qualified to perform donor evaluations and donor management.
- Obtain Certified Procurement Transplant Coordinator (CPTC) Certification within 2 years of completing successful orientation and maintains certification.
- Bachelor's degree required, in Nursing or biological sciences or an equivalent degree / diploma/certificate in an allied health field or OPO (organ procurement organization) experience.
- Obtains and maintains Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Certification.
- Obtain/maintain other professional certification (e.g. RN, EMT-P, RRT)
- Must have ability to travel within the DNWest's service area by car. Must maintain a valid driver's license and current vehicle insurance based on applicable state minimum insurance coverage standards.
