About the role
- Think player-coach: you're shipping production features one day and unblocking an engineer's architecture decision the next.
- This role is based at Range's Headquarters in McLean, VA.
- Employees hired for this position will work in office Monday-Friday.
Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and grow a team of 4-8 full-stack engineers. Run effective 1:1s, give direct and specific feedback, and create clear career development paths.
- Own your team's delivery end-to-end. Scope projects, set milestones, remove blockers, and hold yourself and your engineers accountable for shipping high-quality work on time.
- Partner closely with product managers and designers to translate member needs and business goals into engineering roadmaps and sprint plans.
- Drive engineering excellence across the organization-improve CI/CD pipelines, strengthen observability and testing, reduce deployment friction, and raise the bar on code quality.
- Recruit and retain exceptional engineers. Build a team you'd want to work for. Sell candidates on the mission and close them on the opportunity.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with our planning team, investment and tax specialists and compliance to ensure what we build meets the standard our members expect from their financial partner.

Requirements
- 5+ years of professional full stack software engineering experience with at least 1-2 years leading a team.
- Proficiency in JavaScript, TypeScript, or similar.
- Experience working with AWS or similar cloud platforms.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced startup environment.
- Ability to solve ambiguous problems without the need to be told exactly what to do.
- Ability to pick up on new technologies very quickly.
Nice to have
- experience in fintech, wealth management, regulated financial services or startups.
