Responsibilities
- Maintaining inventory of parts and support supplies to perform routine equipment maintenance.
- Perform corrective and preventative maintenance on fleet of intermodal shipping containers.
- The Moab Mechanic will service, repair, and maintain heavy equipment used for the Moab Uranium Mill Tailings Remedial Action (UMTRA) Project, at both the Moab and Crescent Junction sites, including, but not limited to, heavy duty trucks and trailers, bulldozers, excavators, forklifts, water trucks, dump trucks, backhoes, and trailers.
- This position includes mechanic/oiler performing more routine and simple tasks to a lead mechanic responsible for more complex assignments and repairs.
Requirements
- Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of the standard practices, materials, tools, and equipment used in the repair of heavy equipment.
- Must have a valid driver license.
- Ability to pass U.S. Government employment background check and acquire U.S. Government Personal Identity Verification (PIV) credential card.
- Ability to Obtain Portage, Inc., is a technically diverse company providing consulting and project execution services to clients on their environmental, engineering, and infrastructure projects.
Nice to have
- Diesel mechanic certification preferred but not required.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee will stand/walk for long periods of time in an outside environment, but will also be required to sit, and talk or hear.
- The employee is often required to use hands or fingers to handle or feel and reach with hands and arms.
- The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Outdoor work environment with exposure to all weather conditions and temperature extremes.

Skills

- Ability to diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic malfunctions.
- Ability to read manuals and schematics.
- Ability to communicate professionally with other mechanics about repair work needed.
- Ability to read and comply with project direction contained in project-specific plans and procedures.
