About the role

  • This position will serve as a Senior Camp Counselor for the DPF 4-H Camp, a residential summer camp owned and operated by Cornell Cooperative Extension Association of Nassau County, located in Riverhead, New York.
  • Administrative Responsibilities - 10% - Enforce all camp health and safety standards, keeping campers safe at all times. - Supervise assigned Jr.

Responsibilities

  • assisting with weekly program design and implementation of all the DPF 4-H Camp programs and activities, and providing overall supervision and direction to assigned Junior Camp Counselors and youth participating in camp programs and activities.
  • This position accepts and performs all position duties outlined in this position description, and performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned and deemed appropriate by the DPF 4-H Camp Director and/or Camp Specialist. (NOTE: This position includes cabin responsibilities.)

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • Must have current cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and First Aid certifications (will train and assist with re-certifications if necessary).
  • Must have at least one (1) program life skill suitable for camp program area.

Nice to have

  • Demonstrated ability to supervisor program counselors, junior counselors, and make scheduling assignments.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate multi-faceted recreation program of teaching skills setting up intramural and inter-camp activities.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills in officiating team and individual activities and the ability to teach these skills to staff and campers of all ages.
  • Desire and ability to work with children outdoors.
  • Demonstrated ability to relate to one's peer group.
  • Demonstrated ability to accept guidance and supervision.
  • Good character, integrity and adaptability.
  • Enthusiasm, sense of humor, patience and self-control.

Compensation

  • The salary will range from $3,300 to $4,000 commensurate with experience.
