About the role
- The Tooling Technician is responsible for the maintenance, repair, troubleshooting, and optimization of dies, trim tools, fixtures, and related tooling used in high pressure aluminum die casting operations.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate die changes and support die setup activities with production and maintenance teams.
- Maintain accurate tooling maintenance records and documentation.
- Support root cause analysis and corrective actions related to tooling failures or scrap.
- Work closely with engineering, quality, and operations teams to support production goals.
Requirements
- Knowledge of die cast tooling, trim tooling, and related manufacturing processes.
- Ability to read blueprints, tooling drawings, and precision measuring instruments.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Experience with hot work tool steels and aluminum die cast processes.
- Familiarity with TPM and preventative maintenance systems.
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing and continuous improvement principles.
- Experience with welding, CNC/manual machining, grinding, polishing, and fitting techniques preferred.
- Understanding of hydraulic, pneumatic, and cooling systems associated with die cast tooling.
- Strong mechanical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Basic computer and documentation skills.

- Troubleshoot tooling-related production issues including flash, porosity, soldering, mismatch, and dimensional concerns.
- Disassemble, inspect, clean, and reassemble dies and tooling components.
- Repair tooling using welding, polishing, grinding, machining, spotting, and fitting techniques.
- Monitor tooling performance and recommend improvements to increase tool life and process efficiency.
- Assist with new tool tryouts, engineering changes, and process improvement initiatives.
- Verify cooling lines, vents, slides, ejector systems, and hydraulic components are functioning properly.
- Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and housekeeping standards.
- High school diploma or GED required
