About the role

Responsibilities

  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of up to 15 underwriters, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Create and execute development plans to strengthen individual performance and support career growth.
  • Interview, hire, and onboard new team members to build a high-performing underwriting team.
  • Prepare and deliver performance improvement plans and corrective action when necessary.
  • Perform quality assurance reviews to ensure underwriting decisions are accurate, consistent, and compliant with company policies, investor guidelines, and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide guidance on complex underwriting scenarios and support escalations as needed.
  • Support the implementation of new processes, technologies, and operational initiatives.
  • Partner with leadership to drive continuous improvement efforts and operational excellence.
  • Collaborate closely with Sales, Operations, Quality Assurance, Training, and other business partners to ensure a seamless customer experience.
  • Financial support in times of hardship with our Achieve Care Fund

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years mortgage underwriting experience (mortgage or home equity)
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in a leadership position
  • Ability to meet deadlines and achieve goals

Skills

  • Achieve is a leading digital personal finance company.
  • Bachelor's Degree Preferred, but not required
  • Must have strong verbal and written communication skills for communication with all levels of staff.
  • Must be able to stay organized while working on multiple projects and tasks.
  • Possess the ability to learn and adapt quickly
  • Dependable and ability to work independently

Compensation

  • Conduct regular one-on-one meetings, performance discussions, and semi-annual performance reviews.
