About the role
- It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws.
- Other divisions include Administration, Health Services, Rehabilitation & Reentry, Special Operations and the Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission.
Responsibilities
- The Division of Institutions manages the daily operations of all state-operated prison facilities across North Carolina.
Requirements
- Associate's degree in Criminal Justice, Human Services, Recreation or a related field from an appropriately accredited institution
- Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)/ Management Preferences are not required.
- Required Adverse Weather Reporting: This position is designated as "Mandatory" and must report or stay over during adverse weather events.

Compensation
- $37,377 - $65,408
- The salary grade for this position is NC07.
- State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as, or lower than, their current position.
- If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity.
- Based upon these factors, a pay increase May result.

- Effective verbal/written communication with other staff, offenders, and the general public.
- Be capable of defending oneself against attack by violent persons.
- Work under stressful conditions caused by direct contact with incarcerated offenders who can become physically violent/ verbally abusive.
- Conduct continuous visual/audio surveillance of assigned work area.
- Description of Work
- Accurately operate office machines/ prepare written reports/forms which accurately reflect information reviewed from various sources.
- Demonstrate/ instruct offenders in the proper safe use of tools, equipment/supplies.
- Review, analyze/evaluate various documents and behavioral data gathered from interview/documentation/personal observation.
- Perform crisis intervention/routine counseling to include suicide prevention.
- Account for supplies/ equipment.
- Implement/ manage correctional programs.
