About the role

This role reports to the Director of Infrastructure, who is based in the United States.
You'll balance people management with technical contribution-anticipating infrastructure needs, planning and executing projects, and ensuring our cloud environment scales with Airship and our customers.
This position is open to candidates currently residing in the Eastern Time Zone (EST/EDT) within the United States.

Responsibilities

Lead, mentor, and develop a team of infrastructure engineers
Provide clear direction, feedback, and support to create a productive team environment
Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, product, and security teams
Support broader company initiatives as needed beyond the immediate team scope
Maintain and improve cloud infrastructure on Google Cloud Platform
Drive improvements in CI/CD pipelines, observability, and automation
Evaluate and implement emerging infrastructure tools and practices
Support company initiatives around cost optimization, security, disaster recovery, and compliance
Respond to and manage critical incidents effectively
Mentorship and growth opportunities to build skills and accelerate professional development

Requirements

5+ years in backend or infrastructure engineering roles
2+ years managing or mentoring engineers
Excellent communication skills in English (required for collaboration with US-based leadership)

Nice to have

Hands-on experience with Terraform or other Infrastructure as Code tools
Familiarity with container orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes)
Experience with CI/CD systems (GitHub Actions, Jenkins, Spinnaker)
Background in Python, Go, or Java for automation and tooling
Knowledge of security best practices, networking fundamentals, and incident management

Compensation

The starting base pay range for this position is: $150,000-$180,000 per year.
Base pay is part of the total compensation package and is determined by a variety of factors such as relevant skills, work experience, business priorities, market demands, and location.
