Validates supply and instrument sterility which includes checking package, wrap or container integrity, chemical indicators and expiration dates
Maintains accurate count of all sponges, needles, or other items to be counted before, during and at wound closure
Supports and participates in new programs and/or plans for change which maintains or improves quality patient care

As such, a high degree of professionalism, tact, and communication skills are required.
Performs all tasks required of the scrub including but not limited to skin preparation

Knowledge of surgical techniques, anatomy and physiology
Knowledge of surgical procedures and terminology
Knowledge of surgical instrumentation, and equipment and supplies
Ability to work independently, interdependently and under supervision within department and hospital policies
Good verbal and non-verbal communication skills required
Ability to function in an intermittently stressful environment
Ability to read, speak, write clearly and legibly, and understand and follow English verbal and written instructions
Ability to establish priorities and follow through on assigned tasks.
Knowledge of medical terminology.
Proficient with current in-house computer systems.

Two years recent hospital or health care facility experience required
